I've realised - and now have come to accept - that I may never be able to reconnect with my best friends from school. As we move on with our own lives, I harboured some hopes that there may grounds for us to still find some commonalities. I mean, yes sure, we haven't seen each other in like 20 years, but I am pretty much the same person I was in school - albeit older and more cynical - and I had hoped that my best friends at school would be more or less the same person.
But alas, our paths are too different to find any common ground. How sad.
So at my school reunion coming up this week, I've realised that I won't be with the friends who saw me through the painful but fun teenage years. Coz, you know, they all can't make the reunion because they are busy getting on with their present lives to take a break and connect with old friends. Am not begrudging them for not attending the reunion. But I did shed some tears when my enthusiastic suggestion to let's catch up soon was met with a lukewarm, let's see how it goes.
That hurts.
The husband and I are still going to the reunion, but he has promised me that we would leave and find our own fun if I didn't feel like I want to be there anymore. Gotta love the man.

its rather sad really.
As for me, I still have a bunch of school friend, 5 of us. We try our best to meet up despite hectic schedule and all that jazz. But we never made a 'pact' ala friends for life, that kinda thing cos we dont want to jinx it.
Just go with the flow.
How lucky of you to still have friends from school who make the effort to keep in touch.
