The pain is really in not wanting to be "friends" with people that I'd rather, well, not be friends with. I've got friend requests from spouses of distant cousins whom I meet maybe once a year and when we meet, we just exchange hello and a smile and that's pretty much it. And also why do school mates whom I barely know when we were school mates reaching out to me? Is it just because they just like to have many friends and so, heck, they just invite everyone they remotely know?
If I was not their friend then, why would I want to be friends with them now?
I know it sounds juvenile and I don't get it myself but why am I wringing my hands while I think about clicking the Ignore button to the requests?
Oh, that's right. Because I don't want them to think I'm being unfriendly. And because it might become awkward if we do meet face-to-face and they know I have ignored their requests.
I wish I could tell them, look guys, I am a really boring person, the same person that you knew from afar and a long time ago, so you really don't want me as your Facebook friend.
The end.

same reason why i don't have one. it becomes like another friendster where everyone competes to have the most number of "friends".
same here...
It's ironic I get Friends Requests etc when I dont get the same thing back then when I was younger and slimmer...baah.
I have actually gotten familiar with the ignore button... but I find it easier to just leave friend requests pending... becuase there are people wo never talked to me in high school, who actively ignored me at university, and didnt even talk to me at graduation that have repeatedly requested to be my friend, to my great confusion.
If I say "no" why do you bother reqesting to be my friend the second and third time? You made me miserable enough when we had class together, thanks!
Oh, facebook, how we love thee!
