I wanna go home

I'm in Hong Kong at the moment, but I can't WAIT to get home. As soon as my meeting ends this afternoon, I am outta here. I'll be out here so fast, they'd think they'd been hit by yet another typhoon. Heh.

When I was single and younger, I loved to travel for work. It just means I get to be in another country, do some work and explore the city I'm in, for FREE. I find travel to be an eye-opener. From my work perspective, it is immensely useful to meet the person whose voice I hear from over the phone so often. And you get lots accomplished by being there in person and reading body language and slight nuances that are not visible to you over the phone. From a personal development point of view, I loved exploring the city. I used to plan my trips such that I would get a weekend or an extra day off to just roam wherever I was.

Fast forward to now, I just want to get in and get out as quickly as possible. I get hopelessly homesick and I miss my family even though these are short trips. It's ridiculous, I know. I don't travel as much as I used to, but you know, I'm not complaining much about it. The husband still keeps a hectic schedule but I am noticing that he wants to be in and out of a city as quickly as he could, too.

Whenever I'm asked what I did on my trips, the answer would simply be I'm in meetings most times. And as a seasoned business traveler said to me once, us business travellers, we travel the world and we see nothing. Ah, the joys of travels on someone else's dime.

some day, the world will value the worth of video-conferencing more.

Funnily enough Rina, it was bright and sunny in Hong Kong while I was there. There were slight drizzle every now and then but nothing more than that? Then when I was at the airport waiting to board, that's when the sky just turned grey and dark...

And Ronin, video conferencing is cool, we don't do much and I agree we could do more of those. But nothing beats the face-to-face meeting.

never one for meetings. would rather not even video-conference but if i really had to, then it's as far as i wanna go. better than turning up somewhere listening to people buzz around me.
