At 6.6% in January, it's the highest in 25 years. I heard this on the radio as I was driving home and nearly fell off my chair when I read this.
The bulk of the inflation is driven by housing, according to the news report. As I sit and type this out, I have the parliament highlights switched on, on TV. Besides the fact that I think MP Christopher De Souza is cute, I just don't get that the issue is being debated as thoroughly as it should. If I were a daily-rated worker, buying food staples would cost much more that they've ever been.
Just as well I'm dieting.
Update: The debate also touched on how the additional 2% GST hike earlier this year was badly-timed since we now have a double-whammy with inflation and higher GST. Well done.
