1 Muharram 1429

Today is 1 Muharram 1429. And today is the day when I told everyone at work that Muslims celebrate their New Year.

I don't know about you (if you were Muslim and lived in Singapore) but I get asked if Eid was the Muslim new year, *all the time*. Mostly from my Chinese colleagues and acquaintances who view other non-Chinese celebrations through their own lens, considering the Chinese New Year is the biggest celebration for all Chinese, regardless of religion.

So anyways, there was some confusion mainly around why am I at work if it was my New Year and how come that celebration has not been commercialised. Don't you just love diversity? And I don't mean that in my usual sarcastic self. Seriously.

Yes, I'm also wished "Happy New Year" during Eid (usually Eid il Fitri), including by people whom I thought would have known better. :)

How come Eid hasn't been commercialized? LOL!

Oh no, they were wondering why Maal Hijrah has not been commercialised. One even asked me if we ate ketupat on 1 Muharram. It's quite funny.
