International Women's Day

Today is it. I don't typically celebrate many man-made special days, so you won't see me making a big fuss on Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Hug Your Pet Day, Kiss Your Toe Day and the likes. But IWD is different. Here's why.

I am always thankful and grateful for the education that has been made available to me and shaped my mind into what it is today. And I am grateful for the environment that I am in where I get to determine where I go in my life and how far I want to go.

But for every woman who is as lucky as I, there are others who are in abusive relationships, who resort to prostitution as a way to break away from poverty, who are denied of education, and who are discriminated against based on her gender, and even discriminated by her looks.

I believe strongly in empowerment through education. Which will lead to women making informed decisions for herself, and in turn, a chance for a better life. Knowledge is indeed, power.
