Finally -- something to look forward to!
The husband and I will be watching Memoirs of a Geisha next Thurs, courtesy of Singapore Airlines. I've been invited because of my frequent flier membership with SIA and they've invited me "and partner" (can't fault them for being politically-correct!) to the movie gathering. What a nice change from the Amex experience, huh?
I've been reading the reviews and it looks like it's a hit or miss with this movie. I am a big fan of Michelle Yeoh and I do like Gong Li, so I think I'll have a good time. And I am curious as heck, as to why no Japanese actresses are in the lead role. It'll be interesting to see if the actresses can carry off a BELIEVABLE Japanese accent.
I read the book many years ago, and remember being intrigued with the central character, Sayuri. I also remember the character having so much sadness and hope at the same time.
The husband tried to weasel out of this movie date because he reckons he'll be bored since there'll be no bloood and gore. But no chance. He made me watch 3 hours of King Kong, he can sit with me for 2 hours watching this movie.
