In the wrong business

If I had my way, I would be manufacturing crayons and coloured pencils. And mechanical pencils, as well, I think. But not rulers because they can only be short or long, and always straight.

Why do I want to change profession? Because that's where the money is! Judging by the way Sara goes through her crayons and coloured pencils, I could make tonnes of money just selling those stuff to her and her friends at school.

The first week of the new term and I've realised she's lost much the coloured pencils I got her a couple of months ago; leaving only purple, blue, black and pink. How would one colour a picture of the beach with those colours? With *great* difficulty, ladies and gentlemen.

And she started the year with a spanking new 24 coloured pencils and a 48-colour crayon set - all shiny and ready to coax the artist out of those little fingers of hers. Why 48? Because her kindergarten insists parents buy that number for their art classes. Fast forward to 3 sets later, we're still stuck with broken crayons that are staining her crayon case and books, and coloured pencils that are begging for euthanasia.

So this weekend, I will need to get her yet another box of crayons and coloured pencils. Multiply that with 20 kids in her class and there are four K2 classes in her school, a couple of other classes for K1 and pre-nursery 1 and 2. I'm bad at math but if I sold crayons and coloured pencils to parents from that kindergarten alone, even I know that I would be joining Singapore's millionaire club in no time!
