Lunchie munchie

Today is Farah's birthday. She turns 13. We've asked her to invite some friends over tomorrow at lunchtime. Nothing fancy. Just some pizza and spaghetti. I told her to invite five or six friends, and we'll have cake as well. I wouldn't call it a party, but you know, a get-together. Small and cozy.

And well, what do you know? Last count, there are 18 kids coming. I couldn't believe it, but apparently she is quite popular in school and the five to six friends she invited have decided to invite a couple of people themselves.

The husband said having them over - no matter how many turn-ups we get - is much better than letting them run loose outside. At least at home we can chat with her friends and find out more about them. He's right. I know one or two of them but I do want to know who the rest are. What kind of kids are they. And why Farah wants to hang out with them.

What a stark difference. When I was 13, I only had a couple of good friends. I would've been hard pressed to even name 18 people as my friends then... even now, it would be difficult to name 18 friends. Wow, that just sounds pathetic.

Anyway. My job is make sure we have enough spaghetti bolognaise on the table and the husband is in charge of buying enough pizza. I've been warned they eat a lot. As long as they don't eat my tableware, I'll live.

so how did it go?

Well, let's just saw the first box of large pizza was wiped out clean in a space of 1 min. I had boiled 2 packets of spaghetti and that was gone, too. I had to send the husband to the supermarket to get more minced meat because I had to make more bolognaise sauce. We ran out and we still had four kids turning up.

The kids just have freaking high metabolic rate, I swear. How else can you explain this? There was only a boy who was slightly chubby, the rest are stick thin. And then, the chubby guy didn't eat much. If only I had *some* of their metabolic rate!!

The final count was 3 boxes of large pizza, 2+kgs of mince meat that went into the bolognaise and 2 half packs of spaghetti. And oh yeah, 2kgs of chicken wings. For about 18 kids - we had no drop-outs.
