The return of...

We caught the Jet Li and Jackie Chan movie (Forbidden Kingdom) over the weekend. We were supposed to watch the movie together with the Bhutias this coming weekend but they cancelled on us *evil glare* because Mrs Bhutia had work to complete. But anyway, we have forgiven her and we've made plans for the upcoming school holidays for us to get together with the kiddies.

Back to the movie. It was the suck. The plot was wafer thin and predictable, the script was weird and the acting was bad. The husband who is a big Jackie Chan's fan and has caught every Chinese and English movie he's ever in, was telling me how disappointed he is with the movie. Enough said.

Before the movie started, we caught the trailers to the new Indiana Jones. Isn't Harrison Ford like a hundred years old now? And it seems like all the old fogeys are making comeback movies. I can think of Sylvester Stallone in the latest Rambo movie (which I thought was quite good), and then there's Bruce Willis' Die Hard number 234352 movie and now Indiana Jones.

Anyway, the husband is now inspired to make his own comeback. And since he's more a rugby player than a movie star, he was refering to competitive rugby, of course. Being the supportive wife that I am, I had to give him an incredulous look and shook my head. He still sounded determined so I don't think my lack of support is a deterrent to him. So, perhaps, in the near future, there will be more posts on rugby and being a rugby widow. Sigh.

Milady and I caught The Forbidden Kingdom yesterday as well. I wouldn't go so far as to say the movie is "the suck." Yes, the plot is thin, but that's the case for just about every other martial arts movie. Personally, I thought the fight scene between Jet and Jacky was worth the price of admission alone, but that's just me.

There in lies my issues ;)

I am not really a fight scene buff so a fight scene is a fight scene is a fight scene. All the nuances are unfortunately lost on me.

I was expecting a better plot which is another mistake. I loved Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon. But then perhaps I bought into that movie's beautiful cinematography. Who knows. But Crouching has much better plot and character definition than Forbidden Kingdom.

And then, the English dialogue are just too strange to me. You know when the "Immortal Emperor" whatchamacallit in his last scene spoke in English? That was super weird to me.

anyway, it'd be nice if i could join up with your hubby at rugby.

but ya know, the usual excuses... wobbly knee, blah blah blah...

i'll stick to pussy sports like soccer IF i can find another team to play with that is... .
