I gave my resignation notice to my manager on Wednesday. She wasn't surprised. I had already told her this role was not what I initially signed up for. I have a very open and candid relationship with my current boss, and actually with my other previous bosses as well.
They know that I am a very upfront person when it comes to work (but when it's with personal relationships - now that's is another story altogether) and I am blessed that they make it easy for me to do this by keeping an open mind.
I've only been here since May last year and my last day at the office is March 5. Not too long to make a deep enough impression, but long enough to know it's not working out. Lest you think I am giving up the corporate world, well, I'm not quite done yet with it.
I'm starting a new job after the March school holidays. I had to go through many rounds of phone interviews (the stakeholders were all based in the UK, US, Hong Kong and Australia) and sat through a aptitude and attitude test and provide personal information so that they could do a "secure background check".
I am excited about the new job - yes, the cynical readers of this blog will also point out that I was equally excited when I started *this* job, but if you think *you* are cynical, may I invite you to come have tea with me.
But seriously folks, the vibes are good. The only bad thing is that if I drove to work, I have to go through a trazillion ERP gantries which will cost me a mazillion dollars plus a pazillion bucks for season parking at the office which is right smack in the middle of the central business district. So maybe I ditch the car and take the train.
But then, the thought of trudging to and from the train station everyday in my heels with my computer bag and handbag (and the occasional gym bag) is not really a compelling thought. I don't know what to do yet and I have about a month to figure this out.
In the meantime, send me good wishes.
