Was it something I ate?

A couple of days ago, I wrote a note to Sara's teacher. She (Sara, not the teacher) has regular abacus lessons and she comes home with her workbook. I get to review, sign and she hands it back to the teacher.

I've been noticing that she's getting most of the sums wrong. And I can't teach her at home because I don't know how to use the abacus. So the note I wrote, requested that Sara be given additional coaching because when asked, Sara told me she didn't understand the lessons at all.

The note that came back yesterday from her teacher was long. But in essence, she said Sara was a "brilliant child". She "contributes well to group discussions". However (you knew that that was coming, right?), she is "easily distracted".

I'm beginning to think I might have eaten something during my pregnancies to cause this "easily distracted" disease that now befall my kids.

Was it too much potato chips and chocolates? Or was it the lack of broccoli and bean sprouts? Can't remember; too distracted.

Oh, this is not a problem peculiar only to your kids. Trust me on that. ;) I've got tons of students who are all too "easily distracted."

I guessed as much but you know, to get two different teachers telling the same thing about the kids? Perhaps this is the start of the "pressure cooker" that is the education system...
