Sara is 4 and her mum is knackered

It's Sara's birthday today. We had a Barney cake that she asked for, but I didn't get her any present. I promised her I would get her the Hello Kitty handkerchief that she wanted. What is it with little girls (and some not-so-little girls) and the cat that has no mouth? I've made a mental note to go look for that handkerchief tomorrow.

Anyways, the birthday celebration was a simple dinner and cake affair, at my sister-in-law's (yes, the super SAHM) along with her kids. Sara had a blast playing with her cousins and didn't ask for the helper, which is great.

On our search for a new helper, the husband and I interviewed a potential helper this afternoon, and I think we'll hire her. We said we'll give her a try for a week before deciding. She starts on Wednesday.

At this point, I am totally exhausted. I returned to work after a week's leave, inundated by a sea of unread email in my inbox, a mile long list of to-dos, picking up from where I left things and thanking colleagues who babysat the work that couldn't wait. Add laundry and cleaning up the house to that list.
