The dilemma of a working mother/wife

I leave for Delhi this Thursday evening. The husband's birthday is this Friday. He is turning 36. I feel terrible for missing his birthday, although he thinks it's no biggie. He's saying we could celebrate his birthday earlier or when I return - which will be a week late.

We don't usually have big parties for our birthday celebrations. The exceptions we made were for the kids -also when they were a lot younger. Most times though, it's usually a small quiet family affair; often dinner somewhere nice, come home for presents and home-made cards and that's pretty much it. We prefer to chat about what it means to reach another year, to thank God for blessing us and giving us the opportunity for this milestone and what we want to achieve for the next year. And this is why I am sad I won't be with the family on that day.

But alas, this is not a business trip where the dates can be changed around. And having a husband that thinks I have a great career and doing a terrific job as a mother, does help to ease this dilemma somewhat.
