Leaving the roost - sort of

Today is the start of term break for schools in Singapore. That means the kids will be enjoying a 4-week break. For Farah, she has a school camp that starts today and she will come home on Wednesday.

I'm a sentimental person, so the fact that she is going to be away from home for two whole nights, makes my heart skip a beat. So over the weekend, she decided not to go back to her dad's and I was going to help her back her bag.

We went through her checklist - the school provided the list - and we carefully laid out her clothes, her socks, toiletries, etc. Good thing we did it on Saturday, bec I realised we didn't have a small bottle of Vicks that she can bring with her and she needed a small torchlight. OK, so the checklist didn't include Vicks, but if she gets a tummy-ache, she can rub some on herself, right? And I made her pack some panadols along with her face wash, toner and moisturiser. I would just die if she came back with more zits!

And I very nearly asked her if she wanted to bring a pillow, but I caught myself because I would have died of embarrassment if my mum had insisted I brought a pillow to a school camp. So, common sense prevailed.

As she was leaving the house this morning, I felt a lump in my throat, seeing her with the huge backpack. She was excited and nervous. I on the other hand, was WEEPY.

She's leaving the house for a few days. She promised to call when she can, but I won't be too upset if she doesn't because I know she'll have a good time. And we live 5 minutes away from the school, so we'll be really nearby, although not together... sigh.
